Pairing IBM Sterling OMS with commercetools

As businesses grow, so does the complexity of their distribution network. But often, it grows in silos. Retailers often keep store and ecommerce inventory separate, managed by separate systems. This prevents them from having a unified view of all the inventory and doing things such as fulfilling orders from the location with the most inventory, so you minimize end-of-season markdowns. commercetools and IBM Sterling Order Management System (OMS) are a power team, which is why Royal Cyber is making it easier to pair the two together. Our Sterling OMS accelerator for commercetools allows you to expand your order management with an omnichannel system made for modern commerce.

IBM Sterling OMS

IBM Sterling OMS provides an intuitive interface with easy-to-use functionality, so you don’t have to rely on IT. It uses configurable features for order capture, including real-time inventory, through fulfillment, to power customer experiences that grow sales while improving profitability.

It accelerates transformation by simplifying technology and implementation complexity to deliver omnichannel order fulfillment capabilities such as curbside pickup, Buy Online, Pick-up in Store (BOPIS), and Ship from Store (SFS). Sterling OMS empowers your business to maximize results by managing business rules that are right for your customers and business. With real-time inventory management, you can correct stock for demand and manage inventory turns.

How Does the Integration Works?

  • Whenever an order is captured at the storefront or created at the merchant center, there is a pooling mechanism (pub/sub) that publishes a message to a queue which further sends it to the AWS SQS.
  • To get the order from commercetools to Sterling OMS, it must be sent through a middleware application (microservice) that connects the two.
  • The middleware application reads the message from SQS, converts the JSON format into Sterling OMS supported format, and sends the order details to Sterling OMS.
  • Sterling OMS then creates the order and then responds back to commercetools.
  • The Sterling OMS provides real-time communication with commercetools to send order details directly via Rest APIs, updating the company and customer as the order status changes.

Benefits of Paring commercetools with Sterling OMS

  • Seamless communication: commercetools, Sterling OMS, Amazon Web Services (AWS) SQS, and micro-services communicate without interruption.
  • Basic data set mapping between commercetools and Sterling OMS: Data set mapping gives users a template for establishing the coordination of product data, customer data, payment details, and more.
  • Customizable data mapping: Customization allows users to format and coordinate data sets to meet company requirements.
  • Real-time communication: Up-to-the-minute updates on inventory and orders for stress-free order management.
